Location Scouting in Spain: What to Put in the Brief
A useful location brief translates the creative treatment into geography, access, sound, light, logistics, permissions and decision criteria.
Describe the visual requirement precisely
Translate broad words such as Mediterranean, urban or premium into observable criteria. Define architecture, horizon, surface, vegetation, period, scale, colour, surrounding context and the camera directions that matter.
State the production footprint
Give the scout an expected crew size, vehicles, equipment, talent, working hours and space for wardrobe, hair and makeup, client review and catering. A visually suitable place may fail if the production cannot operate there responsibly.
Record access, control and sound
Note whether the scene requires road access, parking, unit base, power, lifts, public control, quiet dialogue or exclusive use. Identify neighbours, events, traffic, tides, tourism and other variables that can change the location during the shoot.
Map light and weather dependencies
State the required orientation and time of day. Ask for sun-path references where natural light is central to the idea. Build alternatives for wind, rain, heat, snow or seasonal access when those conditions can affect the schedule.
Separate creative selection from feasibility
Shortlist locations against both sets of criteria. The final recommendation should show visual fit, access, permission path, known restrictions, logistics and open questions. Keep the approval owner and decision date clear.
